A couple of reels - Trip to Birminghan (aka Pile of Brick's or Josie McDermott's), and Baltimore Salute, recorded at Malachy's on January 18, 2012 and featuring Martin on guitar, and Anto, David, and Tim on whistles (to the best of my memory; apologies if I've forgotten anyone). The photo is from my files, taken last year on Lansdowne Street.
A journal, in words and pictures, of one woman's Irish Traditional Music adventures and wanderings.

Farewell to a Friend
I learned last night that last week's sessions at Tommy Doyle's in Harvard Square are to be the last. Sad, but remember, we did find each other again after the demise of the sessions at Paddy Barry's and then the Banshee, so I'm sure we will rise again (like the Maryellen Carter) - who knows where.
In tribute to all the great times at Tommy's, I've made this little slide show - from audio and photography from Thursday night, January 5, 2012.
Gonna miss that place.

Jig Set, Littlest Bar, January 14, 2012
Rather than drive everyone crazy with my camera, which stayed right in my bag, I decided to simply accompany a bit of audio from last night with this shot of the Custom House, grabbed quickly when walking back to my car.
Great night, great music - thanks, everyone!
If anyone knows the names of these tunes, please do tell. I should know them, but I do not.

Old Friends
It turned out that the stranger I met last week at Tommy Doyle's, Walter, who also turned up at the Littlest a few nights later, is an old friend of Brendan's from Chicago. They hadn't seen each other for a couple of years so it was very cool to see and hear them playing together again. Maybe I've said this before, but I just love the way this music transcends time and geography. I also love how every single session is totally unique, depending on the configuration of players who show up. All great stuff!
